We are kicking off spring by celebrating three talented Maine woman authors who have written books for children based on our wonderful state of Maine.  This is your opportunity to purchase delightful books about Maine and have them personalized by these authors.

Tonya Shevenell is the author of The Maine Birthday Book. This is the perfect book to celebrate Maine’s 201st birthday! What would you wish for? That’s the question a thoughtful chickadee named Dirigo asks his friends who have traveled from all over Maine’s woods, waterways and wilderness to celebrate his birthday. Gathered around the dandelion birthday candle, each animal offers Dirigo a special wish as they take turns telling stories about their own Maine birthdays. Written for the kid  of all ages, the book is especially sweet for 3-7 year-olds. The Maine Birthday Book is a celebration of the wildlife, geography and magic of Maine!  The party-goers hope you’ll join them!

Next up…Suzanne Buzby and her 2 adorable Maine books.  My Maine is Suzanne’s her first book How is Maine special to you? Children and adults alike will be delighted by a young girl’s answer to this question at “show and tell.” Join in on a real Maine adventure—go to a county fair, pick wild blueberries, and search for sea glass. You don’t want to miss this beautifully illustrated book that truly captures the essence of Maine. Suzanne’s newest book is called Find a Moose with Me…A countdown adventure. It’s about a little boy and his first moose hunt. His parents know the perfect spot to look for moose. Come along on this adventure and help Oscar search. Be sure to keep an eye out for turtles, loons, and squiggly worms. “Let’s count some critters along the way—and hope we find a MOOSE today!”

Stephanie Mulligan is the proud author of How To Catch a Keeper!. How to Catch a Keeper! will give kids in grades 2-3 a Maine lobster boat experience, and follows the adventures of Luke and Layla as they take a trip to the Maine coast and explore its many ways to play. This story is really a Maine celebration in disguise, as their father outlines the biking, hiking, museum, and lighthouse viewing opportunities before the family settles on taking the Lucky Catch boat tour. Local and science terminology are reviewed in a finely-illustrated “Lobstering Lingo” section at the end of the book. Stephanie’s newest book is called How to Tap a Maple! She has created another delightful and informational children’s book. Have you ever wondered how maple syrup is made and where it comes from? Join Luke and Layla on their next adventure as Grampy teaches them all about tapping maple trees. A Sugar Slang glossary and facts about maple sugaring are included.
